Andrew Afeaki says:
I’m not so sure what drove my father into Parliament. There was no doubt he was seeing things that needed doing, as shown by thins he did voluntarily. In those days, the late 40s, early 50s, the people who stood for Parliament were usually lawyers. It was the general view in the public that Parliament was about making laws. People should be elected to it who were familiar with the law and ready to debate and make better laws. That seemed to have been very much of that social setting. He seemed to be an up and coming lawyer in that setting, and he seemed to gravitate quite naturally to that.
