Andrew Afeaki says:
The Royal family here had been in touch with the Ngaruawahia establishment for many years. I know Queen Salote visited New Zealand several times, and was welcomed by the Maori Royalty and welcomed as a high Polynesian chief. I think there may have been some feeling by Tongans that the Maori had not quite got it together, and had lost their country. That might have reflected some feelings that Tongans might have had about Maoridom. But not very strong feelings.
